Z Series Nomenclature
The FIGURE number consists of a nine digit number.
The first digit (Z in the example) indicates the Z series gear pump.
The second and third digits (17) indicates the approximate theoretical displacement in US gallons per 1000 revolutions. Gallons/1000 Rev. [Liters/1000 Rev.]
- 11 [41.6]
- 17 [64.4]
- 22 [83.3]
The fourth digit (R) indicates the type of faceplate on pump.
- P = Plain
- R = RV style relief valve
- E = EV style relief valve
The fifth digit (S) indicates seal type.
- S = Single mechanical seal
- D = Double mechanical seal
- C = Cartridge seal
The sixth digit (4) indicates port arrangement on case.
- 3 = Right angle ports
- 4 = Straight through ports
The seventh digit (F) indicates style of port on case.
- F = Roper flange
- T = Threaded ports on case
- A = Pump with flange facing to accept ANSI Flanges
The eighth digit (N) indicates the head arrangement of the pump.
- N = No outboard ball bearing
- B = Outboard ball bearing
- O = Outboard ball bearing auxiliaries mounting provisions
The ninth digit (H) indicates the final unit.
- G = Gearbox built on
- J = Direct hydraulic drive built on
- H = Bare pump without accessories
- M = Mounted pump and accessories
Occasionally, special pumps or configurations are required which are unique for a particular application. These modifications are clarified by a SPECification number. Identification of any items different than a standard pump can be made by consulting Roper Pump Company or an authorized distributor.
The TYPE number is a number used by Roper Pump Company for in-house identification of construction. Always include the type number in any references to the pump.
- A = low pressure spring (standard)
- B = high pressure spring
The SERIAL number is a unique number assigned to each pump built by Roper Pump Company.
In any communication concerning this pump, always be sure to include the Figure, Spec, Serial, and Type numbers so proper identification of the pump can be assured.
Rebuild Kits
Major rebuild kits available for standard pumps. See distributor or manufacturer for more details.

Note: Maximum speed and flow can only be achievable under the correct inlet (suction) and liquid conditions. Liquid viscosity and discharge pressure, plus pumping conditions will determine actual flow (i.e. – theoretical minus slip).
